Frequently Asked Questions

We've collected the questions patients ask us most often. If you can't find an answer, contact us.

Yes. The clinics featured on Turisti col Sorriso are selected and verified before being admitted to the platform. Many Albanian dentists have trained in Italy, Germany, or other European countries and work with state-of-the-art CE/ISO certified equipment. Albania is part of the EU accession process and healthcare standards are progressively aligning with European standards. Before any treatment, you will receive a detailed treatment plan from the clinic with diagnosis, phases, and costs: you can evaluate it carefully before deciding.
On average, savings range from 50% to 70% compared to Italian prices, even after accounting for flights and accommodation.

Some indicative examples:
• Complete dental implant (implant + crown): €600–900 in Albania vs €1,500–2,500 in Italy
• Zirconia crown: €180–280 vs €600–900
• Porcelain veneer: €200–350 vs €700–1,200
• Laser whitening: €150–250 vs €400–600

Prices vary from clinic to clinic: for this reason, we invite you to request quotes from multiple facilities and compare them.
The service is completely free for patients.

It works in three steps:
1. You fill out an online request describing your dental problem and upload any X-rays or photos.
2. The clinics in our network examine your request and send you their quotes directly through the platform.
3. You compare the offers, choose your preferred clinic and contact them to schedule your appointment.

We do not take commissions on treatments or accepted quotes: the cost you pay to the clinic is the one agreed upon in the quote, with no surprises.
Many do. Given the strong presence of Italian patients in Albania, numerous clinics have staff who speak Italian fluently — often dentists who have trained or worked in Italy.

In the profile of each clinic you will find the languages spoken by the staff. If Italian is important to you, filter clinics based on this criterion or specify it in your request.
It depends on the type of treatment:

• Check-up, cleaning, whitening, simple extractions: 1 visit only, often completed on the same day.
• Fillings, root canals: 1–2 visits within 2–3 days.
• Crowns and fixed prosthetics: usually 2 trips — one for impressions and preparation, one (after 7–14 days) for placement.
• Dental implants: 2 trips with 3–6 months interval between implant insertion and final crown placement.

Many clinics coordinate to concentrate the work in available sessions, minimizing travel.
It's one of the most frequently asked questions, and a fair one to ask.

Serious clinics offer written guarantees on materials and workmanship (typically 1–5 years on implants, 1–3 years on crowns). In case of a problem:
• Contact the clinic first: in most cases, a return visit for adjustment is provided at no additional cost or at minimal cost.
• If the problem is urgent and you cannot return, the clinic can coordinate with your local dentist.

We always recommend asking the clinic for the written terms of the guarantee before starting any treatment.
Consider these factors:

• Quote detail: a good quote specifies the brand and model of materials (e.g. Straumann implants, Nobel Biocare etc.), not just the final price.
• Communication: evaluate how quickly and clearly the clinic responds to your questions.
• Photos of the clinic and team: serious clinics publish them and have nothing to hide.
• Reviews from other Italian patients: look for independent feedback on forums, Facebook groups or Google.
• Warranty: always ask for the terms in writing before booking.
Yes, you can — and we recommend you do so to save time and money.

Recent panoramic X-rays (OPT) and dental CT scans (CBCT) taken within 6–12 months are generally accepted. Upload them directly in your request in JPG, PNG or PDF format: clinics will evaluate them during the quote phase.

If your X-rays are old or the clinic needs more detailed images, it can have them redone on site at much lower costs compared to Italy.
It is particularly convenient to do in Albania:
• Dental implants (maximum savings, treatment can be planned in advance)
• Crowns and prosthetics in zirconia or ceramic
• Aesthetic veneers
• Complete or removable dentures
• Professional whitening
• Professional hygiene and cleaning

Consider more carefully:
• Emergency treatments (better to manage them locally if possible)
• Orthodontics with traditional fixed braces (requires monthly check-ups: 18–24 months of travel is not practical). Transparent aligners like Invisalign or similar are instead feasible if you have a local contact for check-ups.
Tirana has the international airport 'Nënë Tereza' (TIA), well connected with major Italian airports (Milan, Rome, Bologna, Bari, Venice, Bergamo). Low-cost flights with Wizz Air, Ryanair and other airlines often depart for less than 50 € per trip.

From Tirana airport, the clinics can be reached in 20–40 minutes by taxi or private transfer. Many clinics organize the transfer directly: ask for it during the booking phase.
You can do it independently on Booking.com or Airbnb — Tirana offers quality hotels at affordable prices (40–100 €/night in the city center). Alternatively, many clinics have agreements with hotels near the clinic and can arrange packages that include airport transfers and accommodation. Ask the clinic about available options when you confirm your appointment.
The clinics on the platform use materials with CE/ISO certification. For implants, the most commonly used brands are:
• Straumann (Switzerland) — world gold standard
• Nobel Biocare (Sweden)
• MIS, Osstem, Alpha-Bio — excellent value for money

Always ask at the time of the quote which implant brand will be used and the batch documentation. A serious dentist has no problem providing it.
Yes. Partner clinics offer warranties on their work:
• Implants: 5–10 years on the implant itself (some brands offer lifetime warranty); 1–3 years on the prosthetic crown.
• Crowns, bridges, veneers: 1–3 years on the prosthetic.
• Teeth whitening and other aesthetic treatments: variable.

Always request the warranty in writing, with clear terms (what is covered, what is not covered, how to request treatment). Do not accept verbal warranties only.
Absolutely yes — it's actually the wisest thing to do for complex treatments.

Many clinics offer an initial evaluation visit at reduced costs (or included in the package). During that appointment, the dentist examines your situation, creates a definitive treatment plan, and answers your questions. You can then return for the actual treatment — with the certainty of knowing exactly what to expect.
Payment methods vary from clinic to clinic. Most accept:
• Cash (euros or Albanian lek)
• International bank transfer
• Credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard — verify with the specific clinic)

We recommend asking in advance about accepted payment methods and not making significant deposits before confirming your appointment. Be wary of clinics that request large advance payments through informal channels.
Neither. We are a digital intermediation platform that facilitates contact between patients and dental clinics. We are not a travel agency (we do not organize flights or hotels directly) and we are not a medical service provider (we do not make diagnoses or treatment plans). The professional relationship is directly between you and the clinic you choose: we simply make it easier to find and compare offers.
Before being admitted, clinics undergo a verification process that includes:
• Verification of Albanian health licenses and authorizations
• Verification of dentists' qualifications and specializations
• Review of facilities and equipment (through photographic documentation and, when possible, direct visits)
• Collection and verification of initial patient reviews

Clinics are monitored over time through patient ratings. In case of repeated negative reports, access to the platform is suspended.
Prepare these documents and materials:
• ID card or passport
• Health insurance card (you might need it in case of emergency)
• Recent dental X-rays or CT scans (if you have them)
• List of medications you take (important for anesthesia and pre-operative antibiotics)
• Any allergies to drugs or materials (to be communicated before the procedure)
• The agreed estimate from the clinic (on paper or smartphone)

If you are having an implant, follow the clinic's instructions regarding pre-operative fasting and antibiotics.
Serious clinics follow sterilization and asepsis protocols identical to those in Europe, with single-use instruments where required and certified autoclaves for reusable tools.

As in any country, quality varies from facility to facility: for this reason we recommend relying only on verified clinics on the platform and not choosing based on the lowest price without considering other factors. During your visit, do not hesitate to ask how instruments are sterilized: a professional clinic will answer without any problem.
Contact the clinic as soon as possible through the platform or directly via email/phone. Cancellation policies vary: most clinics do not charge for cancellations made at least 48–72 hours in advance. For complex procedures (implants, custom-made prosthetics), charges may apply for materials already worked on. Always ask the clinic for their cancellation policy in writing before confirming your appointment.
